William A. Reiss
WILLIAM A. REISS II was launched July 18, 1925 as JOHN A. TOPPING and was renamed in 1934 after the November 14, 1934 the WILLIAM A. REISS I grounded off Sheboygan, she was declared a constructive total loss. She remained a Reiss steamer till the company was sold.
A new concept for economically increasing the size of a ship was used last winter to create a new Steamer WILLIAM A. REISS approximately one third bigger than before. The pressure of competing with foreign ores, continually rising operating costs, and the advent of deep draft channels and harbors are the main factors behind the decision to undertake this project. The enlarged ship was created by increasing her depth, which has proven to be both an economically and structurally sound method. SEE DOC BELOW
